Animated Face Off
My good friend Mr. Salty Chewbacca, (yes, you read that right), has helped me understand the whole Fantasy Football phenomena that I have been observing up close for ten years. I always get a lot of writing done during Fantasy Football season because Mr. Gregorific is completely entranced. Now I get it. The allure. The obsession. The competition and...the power!
Mr. Salty Chewbacca is a dear friend from my college days. He is running the first fantasy bracket contest that I have participated in—A Disney Movie Show Down. I sat down with my pen and notebook and my ten year old daughter and we pitted movie against movie, using his insightful criteria to determine which movie would win. Which heroine was coolest? Strongest? Smartest? Which trait wins? And then the villains. Who is the absolute worst? And...is that the best?
He spent the better part of a year reviewing dozens of Disney movies. He used a Mickey Mouse Ear Scale. If my daughter and I hadn’t seen one of the movies in the line-up, we would read his review and decide if his opinion on the movie would be similar to ours.
I enjoyed picking the first round, second, and then determining who would face off in the finals. You will never guess who ultimately conquered in the Gregorific bracket. I get it, people. I see why Mr. Gregorific is obsessed with Fantasy Football. You make the whole contest about yourself: your opinions, your decisions. It’s the perfect blend of a consuming interest and ego.
As much as I want to show you my brackets (I'm refraining from a joke here), I think I better make you check out the contest at his site: http://saltychewbacca.blogspot.com/
I will leave you with this brain buster: Robin Hood vs Peter Pan….
Not surprisingly, my bracket boiled down to two men in tights. Who wore them best?
Sidekick: Little John vs Tinkerbell
Villain: Sheriff of Nottingham/Prince John vs Captain Hook
Soundtrack: “Love” vs “You Can Fly!”
Hero: RH vs PP
Heroine: Maid Marian vs Wendy
What are your picks?
